MARKETING DIRECTOR
Full-Time | Columbus, OH
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Marketing Director is a senior strategic leader responsible for the direction, growth, and overall success of an assigned book of business at Hunter Marketing.
This role serves as the strategic lead for Hunter’s client relationships, deeply understanding each client’s business, goals, audiences, competitive landscape, challenges, and opportunities and translating that understanding into smart, integrated marketing strategies that drive measurable results.
The Marketing Director works in direct partnership with the Director of Marketing Operations. Together, they equally own the health and success of the book of business from two distinct but complementary positions.
The Marketing Director owns the strategy: Where are we going, why are we going there, what should Hunter recommend, and how will marketing drive the client’s business forward?
The Director of Marketing Operations owns the executional engine: What needs to happen, who needs to do it, when does it need to happen, and how do we ensure Hunter delivers it exceptionally?
Together, they ensure Hunter is both doing the right work and doing the work right.
STRATEGIC CLIENT LEADERSHIP
Serve as Hunter’s senior strategic lead for assigned clients. Develop a deep understanding of each client’s business model, objectives, audiences, competitive landscape, industry, opportunities, challenges, and definition of success.
Build trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders and become a valued extension of their leadership and marketing teams. Lead strategic conversations with clients, bringing perspective, ideas, recommendations, and informed points of view rather than simply responding to requests.
Anticipate client needs and identify opportunities before they become assignments.
Ensure Hunter remains focused on the business outcomes that matter most to each client.
MARKETING STRATEGY
Own the development and evolution of integrated marketing strategies across the assigned book of business. Translate client business objectives into clear marketing objectives, audiences, strategies, priorities, and measurable KPIs.
Determine how Hunter’s capabilities—including brand, creative, content, media, digital, social, video, experiential and other disciplines—should work together to solve the client’s business challenges.
Lead the development of annual marketing plans, campaign strategies, strategic roadmaps, briefs and major recommendations. Ensure every significant initiative has a clear who, what, where, when, why and how before execution begins. Challenge assumptions, ask better questions, and push Hunter and its clients beyond expected solutions when stronger opportunities exist.

-
Own the strategic interpretation of performance across the assigned book of business.
-
Partner with media, digital, analytics and other teams to understand what the data is telling us and what Hunter should do next.

STRATEGIC PLANNING & PRIORITIZATION
-
Establish strategic priorities across the book of business and provide the Director of Marketing Operations with the direction necessary to operationalize them.

Partner with the Director of Marketing Operations when new priorities, opportunities or client requests affect existing scopes, resources, budgets or timelines.

THE STANDARD
A successful Marketing Director does not simply manage accounts. They know the business. They understand where the client is trying to go, what stands in the way, who the client needs to reach, what will move those audiences, what Hunter should recommend and how success should be measured. They connect the dots across disciplines. They bring clients ideas they did not know to ask for. They make Hunter's specialists better by giving them a clear strategic North Star. And they work shoulder-to-shoulder with the Director of Marketing Operations so great strategy becomes great work.
