CONTENT DIRECTOR

Full-Time | Columbus, OH

ABOUT THE ROLE

You're a writer. A really damn good one.

And somewhere along the way you found out something else about yourself: you love making other writers better.

That's the job.

First, the thing most people want to know, becoming a Director here does not mean putting down your pen. It means the opposite.

Roughly two-thirds of your time is spent creating. Writing, concepting, researching, editing, building brand voices, developing campaigns, and finding the idea that makes everyone in the room say there it is.

The other third is spent leading. Challenging your team, mentoring them, advocating for them, holding them accountable, and helping them make work they're ridiculously proud of.

If you love developing people but aren't remotely ready to stop writing, keep reading.

A LITTLE ABOUT HUNTER

We're a full-service creative agency, production studio, and media buying operation in downtown Columbus — woman-owned, woman-led, and built on the belief that extraordinary work happens when strategy, creative, content, media, and production actually work together instead of taking turns.

Our values are Compassionate, Dynamic, Bright, Inclusive, Fun, Accountable, and Integrity. In practice that means we take the work seriously and don't take ourselves seriously to do it.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Lead the verbal expression of our work. Our Creative Director owns how the work looks. You own how it sounds, reads, argues, and lands. Campaign ideas, taglines, and :30 scripts. Websites, social, thought leadership. Brand positioning, messaging frameworks, executive communications, new business pitches. You can write six words that stop someone in their tracks and 600 words they actually want to finish.

Find the idea, don't just dress it. You're a conceptual thinker before you're a copywriter. You don't wait for someone to hand you an idea and ask you to word it. You understand the business problem, the audience, and the strategy, then help find the creative idea that connects all three. Content isn't what we add once the idea is finished. Content is part of the idea.

Make other writers better. You'll directly lead, mentor, and develop Hunter's writers and content strategists. You'll know their strengths, challenge their thinking, give feedback that's specific enough to act on, and hold a high bar for quality, deadlines, and follow-through. You'll know when to coach, when to push, when to edit, and when to roll up your sleeves and solve it with them. We're not looking for someone to approve other people's copy.

Be great in the room. Brainstorms, creative reviews, campaign kickoffs, client presentations, shoots, pitches. You'll challenge the brief when it needs challenging, ask the question nobody asked, and push past the first good idea. You can explain the why behind the work, take feedback without getting precious, and recognize the difference between an idea worth defending and an idea you're just attached to. Our clients should come to see you as a senior creative and strategic partner, not a very good writer they hand things to.

Own the craft. Everything written that leaves here should be strategically sound, accurate, beautifully written, on-brand, and right for its audience. That takes command of writing, editing, grammar, AP Style, voice, and story — and it takes judgment. You know the difference between copy that needs a comma and copy that needs to be rethought.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • 8+ years in copywriting, content strategy, advertising, editorial, or brand storytelling. Agency experience strongly preferred.

  • A portfolio that shows range of different brands, voices, audiences, industries, and formats. Consumer campaign to B2B thought leadership to social without losing your footing.

  • Real experience leading, mentoring, and developing writers.

  • Conceptual chops: the ability to turn strategy and audience insight into an idea.

  • Fluency across traditional, digital, social, video, and whatever's next.

  • Comfort moving between big-picture thinking and hands-on execution, often in the same afternoon.

  • The ability to juggle multiple clients and deadlines without quietly lowering your standards.

  • Genuine curiosity about people, businesses, culture, technology, and what makes an audience care.

And the one that matters most: strong opinions about great work, no precious ego about your own. You get legitimately excited when someone on your team beats you to a better idea.

You might be our person if:

  • You're who other writers want to hand something to before it goes out the door.

  • You know the difference between technically correct copy and a genuinely good idea.

  • You care about the big idea and the comma.

  • You ask why before you ask how many words.

We're chasing extraordinary work delivered with joy. If that's the kind of work and the kind of team you've been looking for, we'd really like to meet you.
