A MINUTE WITH MONICA
THE CHALLENGE
Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) needed to establish its fairly new President and CEO, Monica Téllez-Fowler, as a visible leader and a trusted face for the public. At the same time, COTA needed a way to get quick, everyday updates, including new services, rider tools and messages from leadership, in front of people who scroll past most social media without a second look. Regular announcements and press releases just weren't landing. They read as corporate and easy to ignore, and they weren't giving Monica a real voice or a real face with the public. COTA needed a way to make everyday transit news feel personal, human and worth stopping to watch, not something riders swipe past on their way to the next post.
THE OBJECTIVE
The objective was to raise Monica Téllez-Fowler's visibility and build trust in COTA through her own voice. The series had to work for a few different audiences at once: professionals and community partners who wanted real leadership updates and substance, and everyday riders and younger viewers who wanted something quick, honest and easy to relate to. Success meant more than just views. It meant people watching all the way through, engaging beyond a passive scroll and a format flexible enough to cover everything from routine service news to employee culture and big regional milestones without ever losing that same personal, consistent voice.
THE APPROACH
Hunter Marketing built "A Minute With Monica," a monthly 60-second video series that puts Monica directly in front of the camera, on buses, at COTA facilities and out in the community, delivering short scripted updates. Filming on location helped each episode feel personal and grounded. The series flexed around COTA's biggest moments throughout the year, highlighting the return of midnight service, walking students through how to ride COTA and the new updates made just for them ahead of the school year, introducing new digital payment options on COTA Mainstream, and even putting Monica in full Western gear to walk the driving course at COTA's annual Roadeo, turning an internal Operator competition into a story anyone outside COTA could enjoy and understand. Additional episodes spotlighted COTA's own Operators, giving frontline staff visibility alongside Monica's leadership updates. Videos were posted across LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and TikTok, and boosted across platforms for greater visibility.
